DeepMind recommends: AI should specifically assign exercises to people

DeepMind describes a delegation framework that addresses a known problem: When AI completely automates routine cases, people lose operational experience to intervene cleanly in critical situations. This is the automation paradox and is particularly true where “human-in-the-loop” is intended as a security mechanism.

The central idea is uncomfortable, but architecturally clean: AI systems should consciously hand over tasks to people, even if they could do them themselves, in order to maintain operational competence. This is not productivity romance, but a design goal for robust systems: Intervention only works when intervention is practiced.

More important is the condition that DeepMind makes explicit: Delegation only makes sense if results can be verified. Verifiability is thus becoming a ticket to automation — and the basis for responsibility, auditability, and governance.

For enterprise agents and automated workflows, this results in a clear standard: Automation not only after “Can the model do that? ”, but after “can the result be checked, is the process comprehensible, are roles and limits technically enforced, are there defined approval acts? ”. AI scales structure; without structure, it scales the reduction of competencies and risk at the same time.
